BH Employees Return from Germany

Lavinia Pintiuta in Frankfurt Germany’s old city center.

Two employees just returned from a special assignment at Buchart Horn’s Germany office. Michael F. Gobrecht, II, a mechanical designer in BH’s York headquarters, and Lavinia M. Pintiuta, EIT, an electrical designer also in the York office, crossed the Atlantic Ocean for a nearly two-week stay in Germany. BH was looking for a mechanical designer and electrical designer with 5-10 years of experience to travel to Frankfurt, observe the office operations, meet with team members, and learn European design practices. Lavinia said, “This experience helped me understand and realize the differences and similarities between USA and Germany projects. It gave me the opportunity to see how BH GmbH works.”

While there, Mike and Lavinia participated in two value engineering (VE) studies for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District. These VE studies were a new squad operations building at Ramstein Air Force Base and the Vogelweh Housing Office in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Both Mike and Lavinia reported the entire staff was very friendly and welcoming and were eager to discuss the differences between Germany and the United States as well as give food and travel recommendations for their downtime.

Lavinia traveled both weekends she was in Germany – visiting Nuremberg and Frankfurt. Mike visited quite a number of cities including Konigstein, Bad Soden, Frankfurt, Hochst, and Cologne, where they were having their six-day carnival known as the “Crazy Days”.

Both Lavinia and Mike both would love the opportunity to travel abroad again for work. Mike said, “I had a great time while in Germany. Our German office team and locals I would meet along the way were all extremely helpful.”
