Buchart Horn provided preliminary engineering services and preparation of design/build/bid package to replace the bridge carrying SR 0366 over SR 0056 in New Kensington, PA. SR 0366 is an Urban Principal Arterial (Community Arterial-Suburban Corridor) with a 2011 average daily traffic (ADT) of 13,202 and a design year 2031 ADT of 17,781.
Project features included:
- Preliminary studies to determine the feasibility of a roundabout to replace the existing structure, and it was determined the level of service at this location could not be cost-effectively maintained using a roundabout.
- Approach roadways and ramps will be reconstructed by matching the existing roadway typical section.
- Replacement of existing three-span structure with a single-span structure.
- Raising structure profile to maintain 16.5-foot clearance over SR 0056 while keeping within the existing right-of-way.
